North London Suburb Continues To Be A Superstar Location
A big name movie was being filmed in Highgate Cemetery recently, adding to the area’s pedigree.
Highgate has long been one of the most popular residential areas in North London. It’s also home to one of the most unique tourist attractions in the capital – Highgate Cemetery. It’s a landmark that the residents love too, and properties near the cemetery are some of the most sought after in the area. Recently though, the cemetery has attracted attention on a bigger scale. Scenes for a Hollywood blockbuster have been filmed there, and while nothing has been confirmed, it’s believed that the movie is the latest in a series of very magical blockbusters…
You’ve probably already guessed, but the film in question is the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the Harry Potter spin off that took the world by storm. Highgate Cemetery attracts plenty of visitors, so when the popular weekday tours were cancelled, the cat was well and truly out of the bag. Although the name of the project wasn’t announced, it didn’t take eagle-eyed fans too long to figure out what was being filmed there. Highgate Cemetery, of course, are used to big films and TV series being filmed there. The staff remained tight-lipped about the latest one, so we’ll have to head to the cinema to see how those scenes unfold on the big screen! Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to be released in late 2018.
About the location
Highgate Cemetery has been a popular tourist destination for many years. Originally constructed as one of the Magnificent Seven London cemeteries in 1839, it’s like no other place in the capital. Elaborate monuments to the dead and local flora and fauna make for a decidedly spooky yet beautiful place to explore. The most well photographed part of the cemetery has to be the Egyptian Avenue which leads to the incredible Circle of Lebanon. We highly recommend booking a spot on one of the tours, as it has to be seen to be believed.
A great place to live
Back in the land of the living, the rest of Highgate really is a wonderful area. Before Victorian times it was a village, and despite huge development, it still retains many green expanses today. A great effort has been made to preserve the area’s character, and that’s clear to see when exploring it. Great schools, fantastic transport links and plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants have made it a really popular area for buyers. If you’re interested in snapping up a property in the area, be sure to get in touch with a trusted Highgate estate agents who will be able to help you find your forever home.
Make the move in 2018
Despite it’s suburban location, there’s always something going on in Highgate. The film crews may have moved on from the cemetery this week, but we’re sure it won’t be long before another blockbuster is being shot in the area. If you settle down here, you may just bump into some Hollywood superstars while you’re out and about! This proves that Highgate isn’t just a five-star film location, but it’s a five star place to live too.
